Appendix I
The Butterfly and Moth Larvae that Feed on the Flowers Catalogued

A great many Butterfly and Moth Larvae feed on just one or two species of wild flower. Thus, if there is to be a rich and varied population of these insects, this must be reflected in the biodiversity of the plants. Often during the summer many of the flowers support a large number of caterpillars and this table is designed to help in their identification. To produce this list I have here trawled through The Oxford Book of Insects, discarding those that only occur in the south. As a result it is not to be assumed that ll the Moths and Butterflies included can be found in Sedbergh.
